Travel back in time to the 4th century BC and continue through the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages and Renaissance: all condensed in two of the most remarkable art cities in Tuscany.
We start the tour with Volterra, a beautiful town particularly known for its Etruscan origins and for the numerous archaeological finds belonging to this era. It was one of the 12 most important cities of the Etruscan confederation, and its impressive city wall – originally 7300 meters long, built on the 4th century BC – can still be admired for a large part, together with two of the access gates to the city, Porta Diana and Porta dell’Arco, as well as the old Acropolis which houses several buildings and the foundations of two ancient temples. There are also many traces of the Roman domain that can still be visited, such as the fascinating Roman theater, from 1st century BC. Beside, Volterra is famous for the alabaster, warm and luminous stone that enchants and inspires the artisan genius that fills the streets of this charming Tuscan jewel.
San Gimignano, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1990, is one of the small pearls of the Chianti area. San Gimignano is a small fortified city halfway between Florence and Siena, is famous for its architecture and for its beautiful medieval towers that make the city profile truly unique. In the most prosperous period, the wealthy families of San Gimignano came to build 72 towers as a symbol of their well-being and power. Of these, 14 remain today which contribute to making the town atmosphere even more fascinating and to deserve the nickname of “The Manhattan of the Middle Ages”. At the end of the tour your personal driver will return you to your location.
