A late-Romanesque rectory.
A few kilometres from Gambassi, in the small town of Varna, along the road that connects Castelfiorentino to Gambassi, you may find the Canonica (Rectory) di San Giovanni, a late-Romanesque church with a single nave.
Documents attest to its existence in 1230, when it appeared among the places damaged by the people from Volterra during a military campaign against San Gimignano, which at the time controlled the territory of Gambassi.
In 1577, adjacent to the building, the oratory of the Compagnia del Santissimo Sacramento was built, where later, the high altar was later moved. In 1705, the façade was modified, and the perimeter walls were raised. In 1785 it became a baptismal church. Inside, a copy of the Madonna with Child and Saints by Andrea del Sarto is kept.
