The town’s green heart
The town park of Gambassi Terme is a beautiful public park, with one of the town’s best sunsets.
It lies parallel to the central Via Garibaldi. It offers a green, pedestrian alternative to those who want to walk from the thermal baths to Piazza Roma, the heart of summer evenings and crossroads toward the old village.
Between the 19th and 20th Centuries, the garden was part of the Sinnai family’s property. It was then passed down to the Niccolis, who in 1916 began to nurture plants and precious essences, a collection of natural curiosities from overseas, from the villa owner’s numerous trips to the Americas and Africa. Due to the Niccoli family’s financial collapse, the town council managed to buy the great Podere Giardino between 1936 and 1938.
Today, in the shade of the black pine, the locust tree spotted with delicate white flowers at the end of spring, the majestic horse chestnut, the oak and cypress trees, the lives of those from Gambassi unfold. In spring afternoons or summer evenings, it is filled with voices, children’s cries, adolescent love and elderly strolls.
It’s a beautiful public park, with one of the town’s best sunsets.
